SOPHIE ATKINSON- SPEAKER AT THIS YEAR’S IHTC 2021

SOPHIE ATKINSON – SPEAKER AT THIS YEAR’S INTERNATIONAL HOOF TRIMMING CONFERENCE 2021

We have the great pleasure of welcoming Sophie Atkinson as a speaker at this years’ conference.

Sophie will be speaking about how LOW STRESS STOCK handling methods provide a holistic management tool that aims to gain cooperative cattle by teaching them to tolerate handling tasks while having minimal stress responses (thus reducing potential production losses).

She will also be covering the basics of low stress handling such as what behaviours indicate when cattle are becoming agitated or confused, and what and why certain body language responses from the handlers, can either reduce or increase handling stress in cattle and thus efficiency during tasks such as foot trimming

Sophie was born and educated in Australia, with a background of agriculture and livestock. She now lives in Sweden and has worked as an animal science researcher for the Swedish University of Agriculture for 16 years (during which time she gained her PhD)
